Urban HAP Objectives and Targets 2008 - 2013

To safeguard and enhance the biodiversity found in the urban areas of Surrey, and in doing so improve the quality of people's lives through contact with, appreciation of and involvement in nature conservation. This is achievable but not measurable. It can be broken down into a series of objectives:Objectives
- Protect and enhance urban sites which are already known to be important.
- Identify other possible key sites, and take measures to protect them.
- Promote the creation of new habitats in urban areas, and the linking of habitats through corridor identification,enhancement and creation.
- Help to ensure that new developments produce a demonstrable gain for wildlife.
- Increase awareness of the value and significance of urban wildlife and of the role that people can play to enhance biodiversity.
- Create and improve opportunities for organisations and people to take action for wildlife.
Targets
- Maintain an Urban HAP working group to support the implementation of the Urban HAP. By 31-12-08.
- Provide a network of support and advice, including about grants, to local groups and volunteers, including wildlife surveyors. Ongoing / by 31-12-13.
- Help produce and support policies and documents that can inform developers and ensure planning decisions consider biodiversity. Ongoing / by 21-12-13.
- Support and advise businesses, schools, golf courses and managers of publicly owned land to manage for the benefit of biodiversity. Ongoing / by 31-12-13.
- Support and advise members of the public and gardening schemes about gardening for the benefit of biodiversity. Ongoing / by 31-12-13.
- Find out about and support initiatives that utilise natural green space for education and improving health. Ongoing / by 31-12-13.
