Action: Ensure that all sites that qualify as SNCIs are designated and reviewed every 5-10 years.

Action: Encourage management of SNCIs and record any work carried out to enable reporting against indicators for Local Government.

Action: Local Planning Authorities, in arriving at decisions about planning proposals should have access to adequate biodiversity advice.

Urban A04

Action: Encourage the incorporation of green corridors within development plans to link green spaces, and prepare a green infrastructure plan or equivalent.

Urban A05

Action: Districts and Boroughs to meet Natural England's recommendations on the provision of accessible natural greenspace and Local Natural Reserves (ANGSt) or equivalent (e.g. PPG 17 open space assessment).

Measurable: Support ANGSt / PPG 17 assessment in all LA areas by 21/12/09

Action: Distribute guidance and give advice relating to habitat creation and management and species provision for planners and developers.

Action: Draw up a set of model planning conditions (which can be adapted) to safeguard existing wildlife and encourage nature conservation.

Action: Districts and boroughs to produce their own Local Biodiversity Action Plan, which will include an urban section.

Action: Encourage all owners of publicly owned and accessible land (including schools) to manage their land / grounds for the benefit of wildlife.

Measurable: Draw up recommendations for management of urban greenspace by 31/12/09.

Hold one annual seminar / event / site visit to showcase good practice. By 31/12/13.

Give specific help and advice to five organisations and schools a year. By 31/12/13

Support 4S (the organisation that provides support for schools in partnership with SCC) and Learning through Landscapes 'Outside Classroom' initiative through the Surrey School Grounds Forum meetings. Ongoing.

Action: Encourage community use of natural greenspace for educational purposes, and as a way of improving physical and mental health

Urban A14

Action: Maintain the Urban HAP working group and invite representatives from all district and boroughs and local groups to help support the Urban HAP.

Measurable: Have 4 meetings a year. Ongoing.

Urban A15

Action: Provide a point of contact and support for local community groups who want to become or are already involved in practical conservation work.

Measurable: Carry out an audit and create a database of all local wildlife groups in Surrey, and find out what they do and how they can be supported. By 31/12/08.

Organise one demonstration or training course a year fo volunteers. Ongoing.

Action: Encourage people, including Surrey recorders and other volunteers to survey urban areas and submit records to the Surrey Biodiversity Information Centre.

Action: Put together and continually update a list of grant schemes to give to people when they enquire about funding.

Action: Support other public bodies in the delivery of their BAPs in urban areas, and support them in fulfilling their biodiversity duty.
